Description

This online Child Protection course is important because all children in Scotland have the right to be protected from abuse and neglect. So, it is vital that people who work with and for children and young people understand their child protection responsibilities, including how to recognise and respond to concerns.

Child protection refers to the activities undertaken to prevent children suffering, or likely to suffer, significant harm, and encompasses both preventing harm and responding appropriately in the event a child or young person has experienced harm.

During this online Child Protection course, you will learn how to:

  • Recognise different types abuse and neglect
  • Respond appropriately to child protection concerns
  • Report child protection concerns

CHILD PROTECTION UNIT 1 | INTRODUCTION

In this first unit we explore key terminology, discuss legislation and national guidance, and explain the 4Rs of safeguarding.

CHILD PROTECTION UNIT 2 | RECOGNISING

In unit 2 we look at how to recognise the four main categories of abuse: physical, emotional and sexual abuse, and neglect. Recognising abuse, or the potential for abuse, is the first step in protecting a child or young person.

CHILD PROTECTION UNIT 3 | RESPONDING

It is important that you know how to respond appropriately should a child or young people make a disclosure of abuse. This third unit will support you with this, as well as exploring some of the reasons why a child may notfeel able to tell anyone about the abuse they are experiencing.

CHILD PROTECTION UNIT 4 | REPORTING

Any child protection concern should be reported in order that the child gets the support they need as quickly as possible. In this final unit we explore when and what to report, as well as who to report to. We also look at the importance of recording what has been said or done.

Please note: This Child Protection course includes descriptions of child abuse and neglect which some people may find upsetting.

FAQs

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
